Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has taken charge as the Home Minister of Bihar, a department that was earlier under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

This marks the first time in two decades that Nitish Kumar has lost the Home Ministry. He had held the portfolio since 2005.

Samrat Choudhary is a BJP leader, while Nitish is JD(U)'s.
