Most of us imagine that tuna is a fish small enough to fit in one of those tins we see stacked up on supermarket shelves. But in fact they can be absolutely colossal.
The tuna we eat in the UK tends to come from one of five species of fish; albacore, bigeye, bluefin, skipjack and yellowfin. The most commonly-available, skipjack, is the smallest type of tuna, rarely weighing in over 10kg.
But their larger cousins, the western Atlantic bluefin tuna, are true giants of the sea. A photo of the largest example ever caught has resurfaced on social media and the colossal fish dwarfs the man who caught it
