BALTIMORE —

Maryland health officials announced the state's first cold-related illness death of the 2025-26 winter weather season.

State health officials said a man in his 30s died in Frederick County.

Health officials remind the public to prevent the onset of cold-related illnesses, including hypothermia and frostbite, by limiting time outside and wearing several layers of lightweight, insulated clothing to avoid exposure to cold weather, particularly covering the toes, fingers, ears, cheeks and the tip of your nose.

Marylanders in need of warming centers or overnight shelter can call their local health department ( phone numbers here ) or 211.

Health officials also warn the public to use caution while using heaters because some heating sources can cause fires, electrical injuries,
