A winning scratchcard has given a Perth northern suburbs man a truly unforgettable birthday.
The man, in his 50s, was picking up a cake to celebrate the occasion with his family and decided to also grab a World Play Scratch ’n’ Win from the Alexander Heights Lottery Centre and News in Alexander Heights.
Seeing the scratchie was a winner, he went to cash it in — but had no idea how big the pot was.
“I went to cash in my ticket thinking I’d won $1000,” the man, from Girrawheen, said.
“But when I did, the man behind the counter said, ‘No mate, you’ve won a bit more’.
“I never expected to win such a significant prize.”
In fact, the ticket was worth a handsome $75,000.
On finding out how much he had won, the man went straight to Lotterywest HQ to celebrate in the winners’ room.
