Metrolinx has released a video showing a GO train striking the rear end of a dump truck that was stopped on the tracks at a railway crossing in Markham on Thursday morning, in hopes the dramatic footage provides a “powerful reminder” to drivers.

The crash took place at Kennedy Road near Unionville GO Station around 8:30 a.m., Metrolinx CEO Michael Lindsay said in a post on LinkedIn on Thursday afternoon.

In the video from the cab’s view, the train can be seen slowing down and blaring its horn as it approached the stopped dump truck at the tracks. A line of cars can be seen on either side of the truck.

A loud thunderous boom is heard when the train makes impact with the back of the truck, then the train comes to a stop.
