SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - When you think of a marching band, you probably think of parades and halftime shows at college stadiums or high school football games.

But there’s an elementary school marching band right here in Michiana!

Nuner Elementary School and Fine Arts Academy’s new marching band will perform for an audience for the first time Friday evening.

The South Bend school started the marching band earlier this year. Through practice sessions, elementary students have learned musical skills while building confidence, collaboration and coordination. Students said the band has provided an emotional outlet.

“It’s just like a stress reliever. You can play it when you are bored, when you are upset,” said Ty’arra Laughman, a clarinet player.
