Des Moines is reviving a group that will work to change the city's urban agriculture practices and combat food insecurity, this time for the long haul.
The city is, for a third time, reinstating a new iteration of the Food Security Task Force, a group tasked with proposing policy changes related to sustainable food practices and land use in Des Moines. The largely volunteer group, first formed in 2020 and then restarted in 2024, fizzled out last year when the city eliminated the sustainability office due to a $17 million budget shortfall .
