PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence cold case was closed Thursday after a former North Attleboro man was convicted in a 2010 manslaughter trial in Providence County Superior Court.
According to Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha, 38-year-old Jason Lopes was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of 22-year-old Zackary Marshall.
Lopes was found to have stabbed Marshall to death outside of a Peck Street bar on December 18, 2010.
Providence police responded to the incident at 2:07 a.m., finding Marshall on the sidewalk suffering from four stab wounds to the chest and torso.
He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Due to a lack of witness accounts, the case went cold until 2020 when new information was introduced to police.
