Amazon has started issuing refunds from a $2.5 billion settlement to some 35 million customers . According to the Federal Trade Commission, most customers can expect to receive a payment of up to $51 before Dec. 24.
“The evidence showed that Amazon used sophisticated subscription traps designed to manipulate consumers into enrolling in Prime, and then made it exceedingly hard for consumers to end their subscription,” the FTC noted in a press release regarding the lawsuit, which was filed in 2023 and claims that the e-tailer allegedly tricked consumers into signing up for Prime and making it hard to cancel their subscription.
