New Delhi: In a landmark moment in the history of English football, Premier League teams on Friday agreed to introduce spending caps in the top flight from next season.
From next season onwards, clubs’ on-field spending will be restricted to 85 per cent of their football revenue and net profit or loss on player sales. Clubs will also get an allowance of an extra 30 per cent, but if the limit is exceeded, they face a points deduction.
English football’s top clubs voted to carry out the new “Squad Cost Ratio” (SCR) and “Sustainability and Systemic Resilience” (SSR) financial rules. The new rules will replace the “Profitability and Sustainability Rules” (PSR), which resulted in points deductions for Everton and Nottingham Forest in recent times.
