A member of one of the most beloved and influential hip hop groups of all time has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. On Thursday, Prakazrel “Pras” Michel, 52, was sentenced in a Washington D.C. federal court more than two years after he was convicted on multiple felony counts, according to the Associated Press.
The charges were related to claims that Michel illegally funneled millions of dollars in foreign contributions to former President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. A jury convicted Michel in April 2023, which included charges of conspiracy and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government.
Michel declined to address the court prior to his sentencing. His lawyer, Peter Zeidenberg, called the sentence “completely disproportionate to the offense” and said his cl
