MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A D.C. woman whose conviction in the stabbing death of Yousuf Rasmussen was overturned in January 2024 has been found guilty once again.
Sophia Negroponte — the daughter of John Negroponte, the former U.S. intelligence director — was convicted of second-degree murder, and she faces up to 35 years in prison for killing a man she was known to refer to as her “ best friend .”
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19, 2026.
According to police, Negroponte was arrested after responding to a small home on West Montgomery Avenue in Rockville on February 13, 2020. The caller told dispatchers that the victim had been cut across the throat.
