New Delhi: India’s medical device regulator, CDSCO , stated that medical devices to be procured in India must hold a license from the central or state licensing authority, as applicable and is primary over all other agency certificates.

Issuing a circular, the Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) said, “The CDSCO license or the license issued by the State/UTS Licensing Authority shall be made mandatory as a part of the requirements for procurement of Medical Devices , without which the medical device cannot be sold in the country.”

Any other certifications which is required by the procurement agency should be over and above of CDSCO or SLA Licensing Authority approval, the regulator added.
