NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — North Charleston Police have arrested a man for sexually assaulting a minor at a summer camp earlier in the year.
Velan Boopathy, 31, is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the North Charleston Police Department.
Investigators say that the mother of the victim filed a report on Oct. 1 with the Richland County Sheriff’s Office alleging that her child had been assaulted while attending a summer camp in the jurisdiction of the North Charleston Police Department. An investigation identified Boopathy as the suspect.
Boopathy was transported by North Charleston Police officers to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia.
