OMAHA, Neb. —
Union Omaha and the city of Omaha announced an agreement to bring a professional soccer stadium and mixed-use district to north downtown.
Officials said if the project is approved, groundbreaking would happen in 2026 with the stadium opening in 2028.
The new stadium would house Union Omaha, a two-time USL League One champion, as well as a women's professional team, officials said.
"This is huge for Omaha," Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. said in a statement. "The stadium and surrounding district would offer another reason to live, work and play downtown, strengthening our urban core. It will be an engine for jobs, housing, entertainment and urban living.
