BOURNE, Mass. —

A worker died Friday in an incident involving heavy machinery at a cranberry bog in Bourne, Massachusetts.

The victim, a man in his 60s, died in the incident that involved a piece of equipment called a bog sander, which is used to spread a layer of sand to the cranberry bog.

The victim's co-workers were able to free him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It happened in an outside industrial area that predominantly grows cranberries. So, we did respond. We did not have to do a physical rescue of the party. His co-workers were able to free him from the equipment," Bourne Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Silva said.

The victim's name has not been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
