CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey on Friday announced the appointment of Gerald Titus to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, filling the vacancy left by the death of Justice Tim Armstead in August.

The Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission received 12 applications and forwarded four finalists to the governor, who, after interviews and an extensive review, selected Titus.

“After speaking with each of these highly qualified candidates, I am very confident that your next Supreme Court justice will serve you honorably and with distinction,” the governor said.

Titus, who practiced law at the Charleston firm Spilman Thomas & Battle and served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of West Virginia Violent Crimes Division, also held a position on the West Virgi
