CHAPIN, S.C. (WIS) - The Town of Chapin says it’s fully cooperating with a state investigation into its recently elected mayor.

In a statement released Friday, the town said it is “aware of the ongoing SLED investigation involving Mayor Bill Mitchell Jr.”

“In line with our commitment to cooperating fully with law enforcement, the town will not be providing further comment at this time. We remain committed to transparency and will provide updates as appropriate,” the statement continued. “The Town remains fully operational and continues to serve the Chapin community with dedication.”

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed Wednesday that it is currently investigating Mitchell after a request from the Chapin Police Department.
