Diego Murgia Ramos left home Wednesday morning to work hard and provide for his family. By the afternoon, the 23-year-old father was gone.
Virginia State Police said Murgia Ramos was killed in a single-vehicle crash on I-95 in Greensville County after his tractor-trailer ran off the road, struck trees, and overturned around 2 p.m. on Nov. 19.
The crash happened near the 12-mile marker at the Route 301 exit, according to troopers.
Police said the driver was ejected and died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
Murgia Ramos’ family is now left shattered, struggling to bring him home and give him the burial he deserves.
His mother, Janet Ramos Gutiérrez, wrote that she is living “the most painful time of my life” after losing her oldest son.
“My eldest son, my 23-year-old boy, hardworking, kind, and full of dreams, lost his life in a tragic accident while driving a semi-truck in Virginia,” she wrote on a GoFundMe created to help return his body home.
She described him as the pillar of their family — a young father who adored his 4-year-old daughter and an older brother cherished by his 8-year-old sister, who "cannot understand why her brother is gone."
“The void he has left is immense,” she wrote. “As a mother, all I want is to say goodbye to him as he deserves.”
The family said they were not prepared for funeral costs or the expenses of bringing him home.
“Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to bringing him peace and beginning to heal this profound pain,” she wrote.
The GoFundMe can be found here.
“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your prayers, your support, and your kindness,” she added. “May God bless you, and may my son rest in eternal peace.”
