AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) announced on Friday it recovered more than 100 Apple iPhones that were believed to have been stolen in Downtown Austin over the 2025 Halloween weekend.
Police said if your phone was stolen to file an online report by including the IMEI and cell phone serial number. That information is helpful in matching recovered phones to their owners. The information can be found on the Apple box the phone came in or you can find it by contacting your cell phone carrier.
APD Lt. Eric Cleveland told KVUE that cell phone thefts from pickpocketing have increased. He said pickpockets sometimes work in pairs, with one person bumping into a victim while another removes a phone or wallet. For women, he said items that are kept in an unzipped cross-body
