A sailor has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the "wicked" murder of his ex-wife, after he lay in wait for five hours at their son's graveside. Martin Suter will serve a minimum of just over 27 years behind bars for stabbing Ann Blackwood, 71, to death on what would have been their son Christopher's 36th birthday.

Suter pleaded guilty to murdering Ms Blackwood at Crofton Cemetery in Stubbington, Hampshire, on July, 24 2023. The 68-year-old, dressed in a beige suit and striped tie for today's hearing, was also sentenced for the indecent assault of a girl under 14 years old, to which he had pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court in May 2023.
