NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KTIV) - The longstanding fire chief at the North Sioux City Fire Department will be retiring at the end of this year.
The department told KTIV on Friday, Nov. 21, that Fire Chief William Pappas will retire at the end of the year, after serving his community for 35 years.
The North Sioux City fire chief joined the department in 1986 and took on the role of fire chief in 1989.
On Saturday, Aug. 2 , a new North Sioux City training facility was named in the fire chief’s honor. The facility was opened on Thursday, June 5.

At the naming ceremony, he shared with KTIV’s reporter, Nathan Price, the wisdom that he has given to his firefighters to keep them safe over the years.
