FLINT, MI - Flint Community Schools approved a new two-year contract with the United Teachers of Flint on Wednesday, Nov. 19, before diving into a lengthy discussion about low academic performance and a draft plan to improve student performances.

The board approved the contract unanimously among members present during a brief special meeting.
When the regular meeting started, Superintendent Kevelin Jones and his academic team presented Flint’s latest MSTEP and NWEA data - numbers that board members said are alarming.
“We know your north star is proficiency,” Jones told the board. “We know that we can’t just focus on growth.”
