VALENCIA COUNTY, N.M. —

Valencia County officials identified a discrepancy in their voter numbers from the recent election cycle, where nonexistent ballots were added and sent to the Secretary of State's office.

Chief Deputy Clerk Brenda Hume said the issue was due to their machines from Liberty Voting Systems, formerly Dominion Voting, which count ballots. The county has two of these machines, but only one was used on election night. After the votes were sent in, they realized the unused machine was tallying up extra votes.

"On 12 races, there were a difference in the vote count versus what it is today. What is there today is correct. It's now correct on the Secretary of State's website as well," Valencia County Elections Director Shelly Trujillo said in a recent county meeting.
