The Poland Board of Education shared some sad news regarding the reason for district Craig Hockenberry's sudden retirement announcement: he has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
The joint statement from the board and the Superintendent reads:
Dear Poland School District families, staff, students, and community members, together, we share an important and heartfelt update about the health and future plans of our Superintendent, Mr. Hockenberry, as well as our plan for the District moving forward.
Mr. Hockenberry has recently been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. After careful consultation with his medical team and with the support of his family, he will be taking a medical leave of absence beginning December 1 to focus on his treatment and recovery.
