LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - In a special meeting Friday, the Nebraska University Board of Regents voted unanimously to consolidate UNMC and UNL through joint accreditation.

The Higher Learning Commission green-lighted the process earlier this month, the Regents said in a release sent last week announcing the noon meeting .

The move reinstates a direct partnership that previously existed between the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“I remember Tom Osborne commenting and saying it was one of the biggest blows to the academic excellence of this university. It didn’t need to happen,” Regent Jack Stark said during Friday’s meeting.

The separation of UNL and UNMC compartmentalized the research happening on both campuses, he said.
