NAPPANEE, Ind. (WNDU) - A Nappanee man is facing charges after he apparently tried to kill his mother by burning their house down.
Investigators say 21-year-old Christopher Hochstetler showed up to the Nappanee Police Department last Wednesday, Nov. 12, and told officers he attempted to set fire to his home with his mom inside.
When asked why he set his house on fire, Hochstetler reportedly told police he really didn’t like his mom.
According to charging documents, Hochstetler told he used a candle lighter and rolled-up toilet paper to start a fire and placed it next to a wood log in front of his mom’s bedroom. His mother was reportedly woken up by a smoke alarm.
