Two Pittsburgh-area school districts this week moved forward with construction plans that will shake up the districts’ current footprints.
Elizabeth Forward approved the second phase of a project that will lead to middle school students moving to a new wing at the high school. Shaler Area is closing an elementary school and shifting grade structures at the remaining four and at the middle school.
“This is an important step forward for our students, and we remain committed to building a stronger academic foundation for every Titan,” Shaler Area Superintendent Bryan O’Black said in a statement.
The projects come as many area districts are considering consolidation plans. They mirror actions being taken statewide as districts grapple with declining enrollments and rising costs.
