GREENSBORO, N.C. — If you go to college, chances are you have a federal student loan : 28% of undergraduate students borrow federal loans to pay for college, and 61% of graduate students borrow federal loans.

According to EducationData.org , the federal government loans an annual total of $87.2 billion to post-secondary students, which includes graduate and professional students, like those in medical school. HR-1 is going to change that number.

There is a section titled Loan Limits. It revised the types of federal student loans and borrowing limits.

Graduate or professional students will no longer be able to get a Grad Plus loan as of July 1, 2026.
