PINETOP-LAKESIDE, AZ (AZFamily) — Deputies in Navajo County are asking the public to avoid a small northeastern Arizona community after a woman was found dead on Thursday night.

Details are limited. However, the sheriff’s office confirmed that an active homicide investigation is underway near Bruin Way and Branding Iron Loop , to the east of State Route 260.

Investigators said a 59-year-old woman who lived in Pinetop was found dead around 9:20 p.m. Circumstances leading up to her death haven’t been released, and no suspect information is available.

“There is a significant law enforcement presence in the area, and we are asking the public to please avoid the area while deputies and investigators work the scene,” the department posted on social media.
