FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno Chaffee Zoo announced the death of its beloved giraffe, Baba, who you may have fed lettuce to during visits.

The zoo says its Animal Care and Veterinary Teams made the difficult decision to euthanize Baba due to her advancing arthritis.

We're told she passed surrounded by her herd and caregivers.

The zoo says the 31-year-old reticulated giraffe was one of the oldest in the US, surpassing the average 19-year life span for her species.

Baba is being remembered as a charismatic and quirky giraffe, who we're told would often use her charm to get more lettuce.

She gave birth to seven calves in the last 30 years at the zoo.
