The UK's best cities for independent shopping have been revealed in new research, with 19 high streets split between ten locations from Bristol to Edinburgh. The best city for independents was Brighton, where three streets placed in the poll position, according to research by American Express and GlobalData.
The list was first launched in 2010 by American Express, and the GlobalData analysis considers the quantity of independent shops , the street’s vibrancy and its aesthetic appeal. GlobalData also surveyed 2,300 UK consumers aged over 18. In this year's list, Sheffield and Manchester ranked second and third, with four high streets between them. England's capital also made the cut, with two London high streets placing fourth, and one ranking sixth.
