Toledo residents could see a slight uptick on their water bills next year as the new budget proposes an increase in the municipal garbage collection fee.

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz unveiled the administration’s proposed 2026 budget on Tuesday, noting financial pressure from rising costs and stagnant population.

One area where ends are not meeting is garbage collection, said Megan Robson, the city’s director of public service.

“Currently, there is a large gap in what is collected as part of our fee and what we pay to operate and process those services for our residents,” Ms. Robson said.

The proposed budget reflects an increase from $6.50 a month to $10.50 a month for homestead-exempt properties. For nonhomestead-exempt properties, the rates could increase from $11.50 a month to $1
