ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Norcross man was sentenced to life in prison for committing an “execution-style murder,” according to prosecutors.
On Thursday afternoon, jurors convicted Brian Sanchez Duarte, 32, of malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office.
The judge then sentenced Duarte to life in prison plus five years without the possibility of parole.
The charges stemmed from the November 2022 shooting death of 22-year-old Alinton Joel Rivera-Zuniga.
Early in the morning of Nov. 27, 2022, Rivera-Zuniga was leaving the Alta Gama event hall in Norcross when he encountered Duarte and another man in an SUV.
