MONTVALE, Va. (WDBJ) -Earlier this week, Senator Mark Warner’s office announced that a $1 million USDA grant will go to Bedford County to renovate the old Montvale High School building into a community center.

The old school building has stood off Route 460 since 1930. The people of Montvale have been fighting for the project over the past few years, as they believe the old building is crucial to the community.

“We have a lot of people that are still living here and would like to see the school continue because they did go to school here,” said Roger Jones, a Montvale resident and a member of the Montvale School Preservation Foundation. “We would just like to see the history preserved and the area to grow in a nice, peaceful, residential type atmosphere that’s good for growing families.”
