SANDY HOOK, Ky. — Michael Carneal, the man responsible for a mass shooting at Heath High School in 1997, has been moved to the Little Sandy Correctional Complex in Elliott County.
A Victim Information Notification Exchange message sent to Spectrum News said Carneal now lives at the minimum-medium security prison.
In 1997, Carneal was a 14-year-old freshman at Heath High. Before school, he opened fire on prayer circle that met in the school’s lobby every morning. At the time, he was sentenced to the maximum sentence for someone his age—a life sentence with a possibility of parole after 25 years.
In 2022, the Kentucky Parole Board voted to have Carneal spend the rest of his life in prison without another opportunity to seek parole. In his parole hearing, Carneal admitted to still hearing
