Montgomery County police are at the scene of a shooting Friday afternoon near downtown Silver Spring that critically injured a man, the department said in a social media post.

Roads near the incident, including Fenton Street from Burlington Avenue to Gist Avenue, are closed due to police activity, according to Alert Montgomery, the county’s alert system. Drivers should expect significant traffic delays and seek an alternate route.

Just after 2 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Fenton Street and Richmond Avenue for a reported shooting, the post said. According to radio transmissions, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews were also dispatched.
