GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Investigators say a con man posed as a funeral director and scammed a woman grieving over the death of her husband.

They say the man behind the fraud was Mark Rosas, an inmate at a Georgia state prison.

Kevin Wetzel, owner of Memorial Park Funeral Home, said he received a surprising call from the widow soon after she made funeral arrangements.

Scammers targeting utility customers this holiday season

Georgia Power and Dominion Energy are both warning customers about scams targeting them this holiday season.

“She says, ‘Kevin? What is it you’re needing?’ And I said, ‘What do you mean?’ She said, ‘Well, you just called saying you needed money.’ I said, ‘No, no, no, I have not called anybody.’ We would never do anything like that,” Wetzel said.
