MINDEN, La. -- Construction is nearing completion for an animal shelter in Minden.
Minden Animal Control Director Carrie Ford hopes to be open by the first of the new year.
“We should be finished by then and hopefully have a ribbon cutting around the first of January,” Ford said. “Right now, we are waiting for plumbing and finishing the floors. I’ve already started moving in supplies.”
The new facility has 18 kennels, six of which are outside under a covered porch. There's also a cat room that will have tiered kennels and a meet and greet area. The building includes an office and storage.
Animal control has five dogs and one cat, Cheeto, currently in its care.
Cameras will be installed to keep an eye on the inside and outside.
