ADAMS COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) — With a heavy heart, the Adams County Sheriff's Office announced retired K9 Lya has passed away. She died on November 20.

Lya served alongside her handler, Sergeant Simmons, for six years before retiring in August 2023.

Lya was cherished not only as a working dog but also as a beloved companion in her retirement. Despite leaving the force, she continued to protect her family with the same dedication she showed in her career.

"K9 Lya will be deeply missed," the Sheriff's Office said in a post. "Her loyalty, bravery, and dedication to our community will never be forgotten."

The Sheriff's Office extends thoughts and prayers to Sgt. Simmons' family during this difficult time.
