A New Jersey man expecting to meet a 13-year-old boy at a hotel in New York has been sentenced to 10 years probation, authorities said.
The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office recommended on Wednesday that a judge sentence Carl Ellis to prison, but the 55-year-old Maplewood resident will remain free and be registered as a sex offender.
Ellis exchanged explicit text messages with an undercover detective posing as a teen on April 6 and April 7 before arranging to meet at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Suffern, New York, the district attorney said.
Ellis was arrested by New York State Police when he arrived intending to sexually assaulting a child, officials said. He charged with attempted rape, attempted disseminating indecent materials to minors and attempted endangering the welfare of
