MARICOPA, AZ (AZFamily) — A Maricopa woman suffered devastating injuries when a suspected drunk driver crashed into her vehicle. Then, she was sued by the passenger in the car with the suspected drunk driver. Now, this case could change state law — protecting victims of car crashes from getting victimized twice.
It may sound like a unique or bizarre situation, but it could happen to anyone driving on Arizona’s streets and highways. After months of searching for help, the family of the woman injured in the collision will walk into the Arizona State Capitol next week, looking to effect change. And it’s all because of a letter.
Flipping through this letter, Debi McDaniels never knew the extent — how much weight words hold. “An incredible amount,” McDaniels said.
