More than 200 local elections were decided in Westmoreland County on Friday. It was done using an old-fashioned system.

“It’s something that’s been around for years,” Westmoreland Elections Bureau Director Scott Ross said. “It’s the ‘casting of the lots.’ They call [the marbles] pills.”
Those pills decided more than 200 ballots that were tied after election day — 83 races for election judges and 133 for election inspectors were elected. The pills were pulled in front of a crowd.
