BRUNSWICK, Maine — A new emergency shelter is opening in Brunswick, replacing Tedford Housing's office building and its current shelters for adults and families.
The facility will increase the agency's shelter capacity by about 60 percent, allowing it to accommodate people who previously had to be turned away.
Tedford Housing Executive Director Andrew Lardie said living without adequate shelter is not a solution to homelessness.
"You know, living out of your car… living some place unheated, that's not a way to resolve homelessness, and people deserve better than that," Lardie said. "Once we move in the guests from the previous shelter, we're going to have new capacity for people who have been turned away from Tedford."
