LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Difficult, but necessary, is how JCPS Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood explained the decision to recommend school closures and consolidations.
"These are difficult decisions, but these are necessary to preserve the future of our district and to protect our students' future," he said on Friday.
This comes amid the district's $188 million deficit, though the district says this is not happening solely because of the budget deficit.
Either way, the decision is causing mixed reactions.
"I cried, I cried," said parent Vyctoria Amsler, who is a Zachary Taylor Elementary parent, one of the schools being recommended to close.
She said her daughter is in a moderate-severe disability unit.
