RIVER HILLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A young life was remembered and celebrated Friday, Nov. 21.

Nikolai Hanson died in a freak car accident on November 21, 2024. He was just eight years old.

He was waiting for his school bus in River Hills when he was accidentally hit by his parent's car.

Gold was Nikolai's favorite color, so friends and family put on their gold today and released gold balloons in his honor.

Nikolai's mom also created bookmarks to help keep her son's memory alive. She and the family passed them out to schools, libraries and local businesses, to spread love, light and smiles - just like Nikolai did.

They've also set up a soccer scholarship in his name to help kids who can't afford to play at the club level.
