STOCKTON, Calif. —
A new high-intensity activated crosswalk signal has been installed in Stockton to address the area's reputation for speeding and enhance pedestrian safety.
The new signal was placed at Pershing Avenue and Rose Street.
"People have called it the Pershing Freeway Express," said Stockton District 4 City Councilmember Mario Enriquez.
The signal requires drivers to slow down when activated, with flashing yellow lights indicating the need to stop.
"Once you push the button, you'll see the yellow lights flashing to say slow down, and now we can cross the street," Enriquez explained.
The speed limit on Pershing Avenue is 30 miles per hour, and residents are noticing a change in driver behavior.
