EUGENE, Ore. - The Port of Coos Bay Intermodal Project is making waves with its ambitious plans to revitalize the southern Oregon coast. With support from state and federal funding, this initiative aims to transform the port through channel modifications, rail upgrades, and the creation of thousands of jobs.
Concerns over the project's impact on the local environment and community were front and center at a recent meeting at Eugene's City Club. Attendees voiced worries about wildlife, marine habitats, pollution, and carbon emissions.
"When you do a project like this, it's my experience as a legislator who did a lot of work on transportation, there's always concerns when things change, and I understand that completely," said Caddy McKeown, former port commissioner for the Port of Coos Bay
