CROCKETT, Texas — A suspect accused of continuously sexual abuse of a child died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after evading law enforcement in Houston County, police say.

Crockett police officers were assisting the Houston County Sheriff’s Office with an investigation attempted a traffic stop on Durrett Drive at West Goliad Ave. Friday afternoon. The suspect was wanted out of Houston County for continuous abuse of a a child, and the suspect refused to stop, police said.

Police say the pursuit went out of Crockett onto FM 229 and then onto multiple county roads and FM roads. Around 30 minutes into the pursuit, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper used spike strips in the 6000 block of FM 227, deflating the suspect's tires.

The car then crashed into a fence before stopping.
