Three extra practices this week afforded the Penguins a chance to drill deeper into the details of their game.
By the time Friday arrived, they grabbed a shovel and dug themselves a gigantic hole — one they never come close to digging out of during a 5-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild at PPG Paints Arena.
It was just the Penguins’ third game in the past 12 days, but it looked like they were playing the second game of a doubleheader.
Minnesota, facing little resistance, scored three times in the first period and knocked Arturs Silovs out of the game 69 seconds into the second, the first time the Penguins have made an in-game goaltending switch this season.
Despite Pittsburgh’s goalies entering this one with the second-best save percentage (.915) in the NHL, Silovs had easily his worst start
